Routers & Devices

The Routers & Devices section maintains the inventory of physical WiFi routers and network gateways deployed across your locations. This registry records hardware-level information for each device and manages its operational state and deployment status. The guest-facing WiFi landing page and captive portal are configured separately through the Landing Page Builder and Captive Portal editors.

Router Record Fields​

Each router record in the inventory contains the following attributes:

  • Name — A descriptive label used to identify the device within the dashboard
  • Type — The hardware category of the device (e.g., Industrial Mini PC)
  • Model — The specific device model designation
  • Manufacturer — The name of the hardware manufacturer
  • Serial Number — The unique physical identifier assigned to the device by the manufacturer
  • Description — Optional free-text notes providing additional context about the device
  • Gateway MAC — The device's Media Access Control (MAC) address, used to uniquely identify it on the network
  • Client — The account to which this router is assigned

Registering a Router​

To add a new router to the inventory:

  1. Navigate to Routers in the main sidebar.
  2. Click Add Router.
  3. Enter the device name, type, model, manufacturer, serial number, and gateway MAC address.
  4. Assign the router to the appropriate client account.
  5. Set the initial operational status.
  6. Click Save to create the router record.

Operational Status​

Each router is assigned one of the following status designations, which determines whether it actively serves guests and collects data:

  • Active — The router is fully operational and serving the captive portal to connecting guests
  • Inactive — The router is registered in the system but is not currently in use
  • Maintenance — The router is temporarily out of service and will not present the portal to guests

Deployment and Data Collection​

  • A router can be deployed to a specific location, establishing the link between the physical hardware and the venue it serves. Deployment and undeployment can be performed either from the location directory or directly from the router's own record in this inventory.
  • Once a router is deployed to a location, data collection can be toggled independently of deployment status. This allows you to pause data collection without fully removing a router from a location.
